Reduce costs with GFI’s fax server
GFI FaxMaker is a leading fax server for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). It makes sending and receiving faxes an efficient, simple and cost effective process and solves the problems with manual faxing: printing out the document, walking to the fax machine, waiting for the fax to go through, not to mention the cost of fax machine supplies and repair. GFI FaxMaker allows users to send and receive faxes directly from their email client.
No burden on the administrator
GFI FaxMaker fax server software is easy to install, requires little maintenance and integrates with existing messaging clients and customized solutions on your network.

Fax over IP (FoIP) support
GFI FaxMaker supports Fax over IP (FoIP) and integrates with IP-enabled PABXs, and Brooktrout’s SR 140 technology to send faxes over an IP Telephony Network.
Overview
GFI FaxMaker is an award-winning network fax server solution for small to medium businesses. It makes faxing faster, simpler and cheaper by allowing faxes to be sent and received from an email client.
By using Fax over IP technology (FoIP), GFI FaxMaker can leverage existing networks with minimal hardware or configuration. FoIP allows faxes to be transported using IP or VoIP (Voice over IP) networks, allowing businesses to enjoy the benefits of network faxing, without the overheads.
GFI FaxMaker integrates with a range of gateway technologies to ensure every fax is delivered. So even if your destination uses a standard fax machine or a fax-enabled smart phone, the fax will still be delivered.
GFI FaxMaker is certified to work with Cisco, Avaya, Shore Tel, Mitel, Astrerisk, Siemens and 3CX systems.
How Fax over Internet Protocol (FoIP) Works
As the name suggests, FoIP is a method of sending faxes over existing IP networks. Previously, faxes could only be sent using standalone fax machines that used standard phone lines or a physical fax server.
Fax over IP uses existing VoIP or standard IP networks to send the fax. GFI FaxMaker is a fax server that integrates into email clients such as MS Exchange and Lotus to send and receive fax transmissions. This allows for seamless faxing to and from a desktop email client.
The system works by “wrapping” the standard T30 fax data inside a T38 protocol, which works over IP networks. The fax can then be delivered to the destination using standard IP routing. Faxes can be transmitted through VoIP gateways too if you use them.
Once at the far end, the fax machine, or fax software unwraps the T38 wrapper and exposes the T30 fax data. This can then be processed as a standard fax.
As FoIP still makes use of traditional fax technology, the T30 protocol, even if the receiving end has a standard fax machine, the fax will still be delivered.
This technology uses existing infrastructures to bridge the gap between networks and standalone fax machines. It brings different networks together and makes them easier to use, cheaper, faster and more secure.
